How do I book a private ultrasound scan in Milton Keynes?
Type a postcode into the search, or use the map instead. Each listing shows the price and what the centre offers, so you can weigh them against each other. A short form comes next, covering your medical history, the reason for your scan and a few safety questions. Pay, and the rest is on us. No GP referral to chase.
Why book with us?
No referral, no waiting list, no queue to join. We are the UK's largest medical imaging network, with hundreds of locations across the country, and the whole thing runs online: minutes to book, hours until a clinician calls, days until you are scanned. You decide where to go and when. Results come through digitally, so passing them to your own healthcare professional is simple.
Preparation for ultrasound scans
What you need to do depends on which part of the body is being looked at. Some ultrasound scans want a full bladder, so you will be asked to drink water at a set time beforehand and wait until the scan is done. Others ask you not to eat for a few hours, or to skip coffee and other caffeine on the day. Plenty need no preparation whatsoever. The centre you book with sets the instructions and sends them before your appointment, so check them when they arrive rather than on the morning itself.
The procedure
A trained sonographer carries out the scan and runs through it with you first. You will need to move or take off clothing over the area, then lie down or sit, depending on what is being examined. Gel goes onto the skin, and a handheld probe is passed over it. If the area is already sore, the pressure can be uncomfortable, so say if it is. The gel wipes off, and you can get on with the rest of your day as soon as it is over.
How long does it take?
Most ultrasound scans run to between 15 and 30 minutes. How many areas are being examined is what moves that figure. Your clinician and the centre you book with will tell you what to expect on the day.
