Private MRI scans in Torquay

A shoulder that will not loosen off. Pins and needles that keep returning. Headaches that have outlasted every explanation offered so far. MRI picks up nerves, soft tissue and detail in the brain that other kinds of imaging can miss. Torquay sits on the English Riviera alongside Paignton and Brixham, with Newton Abbot and the villages of south Devon inland, and booking privately means getting answers without joining a queue.

Torquay private MRI scan costs

Private MRI scans in Torquay start from £250. A clinician consultation and your referral are built into that rather than added on later. Prices shift from centre to centre, so search and compare the ones nearest you before booking.

How do I book a private MRI scan in Torquay?

Compare centres on the map, or search by postcode if you would rather start that way. Prices sit alongside each result. Once you have settled on one, a short form covers your booking details and the safety questions, and payment secures the slot. Scheduling and results are then down to us. A GP referral plays no part in any of it.

Why book with us?

No referral is required to book with us, and we are the largest medical imaging network in the UK, with hundreds of locations nationwide. Minutes to book online. Hours until a clinician speaks to you. Days until the scan happens. Nothing sits on a waiting list, which leaves the when and the where entirely up to you. Results arrive digitally, so passing them to your healthcare professional is straightforward.

Preparation for MRI scans

Preparation ahead of an MRI is usually light, though fasting is occasionally requested for a period before the appointment. Clothing should be soft and comfortable, with nothing metal holding it together, so buttons, toggles and zips are all out. A gown may be offered to you to change into instead. Because the magnets inside the scanner are strong enough to react with metal, glasses, jewellery, watches, belts, wallets, phones and anything else you have on you need to stay outside the room. Anyone with an implanted medical device, a pacemaker being the common example, may need additional preparation for safety reasons. Every instruction that applies to you is given before the scan. Where contrast is used, recent blood test results confirming kidney function are required, because clearing the gadolinium contrast agent afterwards is the kidneys' job.

The procedure

The scan is run by radiographers, who train specifically in imaging and will explain each stage before anything begins. You will be asked to lie still on a flat bed that moves into the scanner, a machine shaped like a doughnut. Length varies with the part of the body being examined, from 15 minutes at the shortest up to 90. An IV delivers contrast when a scan calls for it. The machine makes a lot of noise, although music is usually available and the radiographers keep talking to you through headphones.

How long does it take?

Between 15 and 90 minutes. The number of areas being scanned drives most of that, and contrast adds to it. Ahead of the appointment, your clinician and the centre you have chosen will give you a time to expect.
